Flggd Scam School · Romance & Relationship Manipulation · Lesson 17 of 20
Yesterday it was flirty and fun; today it is a threat. When an online flirt turns into blackmail, you are dealing with a practiced crew, not a person you disappointed. This is survivable, and it is not your fault.
The message looks like this

Why this is a scam
The flirtation was the operation. Accounts like this exist to move fast, get something compromising (or claim to have it), and flip to threats while you are still off balance. The sudden personality change is not a betrayal; it is the same person reaching the next page of the script.
Blackmailers do not honor deals. Payment does not delete anything; it marks you as someone who pays. The follower list line is pressure theater: scraping a public list takes seconds and proves nothing about what they will actually do.
In most cases, mass-sending images is work that earns them nothing. The profit is in your panic during the first 48 hours. Deny them that window and their attention moves on.
Red flags checklist
Instant switch from warmth to threats; the tone change is total.
A deadline in hours and a specific payment amount.
Claims to have recordings they never actually show, or show only partially.
Demands for gift cards, crypto, or wire transfers.
"Do not tell anyone", the sentence that protects them, not you.
The manipulation tactic
This is panic exploitation. Shame plus a countdown is designed to make you pay before you think, talk to anyone, or learn how weak their position really is.
What to do, and what not to do
Do not pay. Payment invites more demands; it never ends them.
Stop replying, but do not delete anything; screenshot the threats first.
Report the account to the platform and file a report at ic3.gov.
Tell someone you trust; secrecy is the blackmailer's best weapon.
If you are under 18, use NCMEC's free Take It Down service and tell a trusted adult; you are protected, not in trouble.
