Flggd Scam School · Investment & Trading Scams · Lesson 12 of 19

Your trading platform won't let you withdraw, and support keeps producing new reasons. Here's the hard truth: on a scam platform, the lock isn't a glitch. It's the business model.

The message looks like this

Example of a locked funds withdrawal scam notification

Why this is a scam

Real brokers process withdrawals in days, and they never require you to "maintain your balance" to get your own money. Reviews, tiers, and compliance holds that only appear at withdrawal time are stalling scripts.

The warning against opening a dispute is the tell. Disputes and chargebacks are the one tool that costs scammers money, so the script forbids them in advance.

Red flags checklist

  • Withdrawals fail while deposits still work perfectly.

  • Each attempt produces a new requirement: reviews, tiers, upgrades.

  • You're told to keep your balance untouched during a "review".

  • The platform discourages disputes, chargebacks, or contacting your bank.

  • Support stays friendly as long as you stop asking for your money.

The manipulation tactic

Sunk cost. With money already inside, you'll tolerate almost any story that keeps hope of recovery alive; the scam rations that hope.

What to do, and what not to do

  • Stop depositing immediately; no fee or top-up ever unlocks funds.

  • Screenshot everything: balances, messages, declined requests.

  • Contact your bank or card issuer about disputes now, not later.

  • Report the platform to the FTC and, for crypto, to ic3.gov.

  • Expect a "recovery agent" to contact you next; that's round two of the same scam.
