Manufactured intimacy

Weeks of investment before any money is mentioned.

The scams that take the most money take the longest to arrive at money.

In relationship and relationship-investment fraud, weeks or months pass before a request. Daily contact, real conversation, genuine attention. By the time money is mentioned, the target is not evaluating a stranger's proposal. They are helping someone who has been part of their life since spring.

This inverts the usual advice. "Do not send money to people you have not met" assumes the relationship is thin. Here it is thick, and it is the thickness that does the work.

The operator's economics permit it. Many of these operations run at industrial scale, with scripts refined across thousands of conversations and several workers rotating on the same account. Some of those workers are themselves trafficked and held. The time cost per target is low because the time is not one person's.

The tell is structural rather than emotional. Every request to keep the relationship private, every explanation for why meeting is impossible, and every crisis that requires money rather than presence, is a piece of the same construction.
